Curator’s statement
The Corinthia Grand Hotel Astoria is one of the most impressive luxury hotels currently operating in Brussels. Originally built in the early 1900s at the direction of King Leopold to host royal guests, the property recently completed a meticulous multi-year restoration. Because the building is protected as a historic landmark, the renovation closely followed the original architectural specifications.
The result is a polished, true five-star palace hotel that blends historic grandeur with modern luxury. For travelers looking for a classic European palace-style hotel in Brussels, the Corinthia stands out as one of the city’s most elegant options.

First impressions
Arrival at the hotel immediately sets the tone. The doormen are attentive, professional and welcoming, greeting guests and assisting with arrivals in a way that feels polished and effortless.
Stepping inside, the main foyer is spectacular. A dramatic stained-glass ceiling crowns the space, and a sweeping staircase anchors the room, reinforcing the building’s royal origins and palace-like atmosphere.
Just off the lobby is Under the Stairs, the hotel’s hidden speakeasy-style cocktail bar. Tucked slightly out of view from the foyer, it has a relaxed and intimate atmosphere and serves excellent cocktails, an ideal place for guests to unwind after a day exploring Brussels.

Guest rooms
During my visit I toured all three categories of guest rooms, including one of the suites, and the quality was consistently impressive.
Rooms are generously sized and beautifully finished, with elegant modern interiors that still respect the building’s historic character. The property felt immaculate throughout, from the finishes to the furnishings.
Street-facing rooms are particularly well insulated with double-paned windows, ensuring a quiet environment despite the hotel’s central city location.

Wellness & fitness
The hotel’s wellness area is one of its standout features and unusually strong for a city property.
The space includes:
A large indoor pool anchored by a striking gas fireplace
A spacious hot tub
Saunas and a traditional hammam
A well-sized fitness center
Quiet relaxation areas designed for guests who want to unwind in peace
For travelers who prioritize spa and wellness facilities when choosing a luxury hotel in Brussels, the offerings here are exceptional.
Location
The hotel sits just outside the busiest tourist center of Brussels, offering a nice balance between accessibility and a more local atmosphere.
Directly behind the hotel is Place de la Liberté, a lively neighborhood square with excellent cafés, bars and restaurants. It provides a more local feel than the historic tourist center while still remaining very close to the city’s main attractions.
A short walk down the street brings you to Parc de Bruxelles, also known as Parc Royal. During the summer months the park becomes especially lively, with open-air bars known as guinguettes where locals gather for drinks and conversation.
Despite the slightly quieter setting, the historic center of Brussels remains easily accessible on foot.

Why the Corinthia stands out
Many luxury hotels today lean heavily into contemporary design, but the Corinthia Grand Hotel Astoria embraces the historic grandeur of a classic European palace hotel while still delivering modern comfort.
For travelers seeking a refined five-star hotel in Brussels with historic architecture, elegant interiors and strong wellness facilities, the Corinthia offers one of the most distinctive luxury stays in the city.
